1.22.2000 Utahs work with Chuck D
(from BBC
Online Radio 1 website)
Utah Saints are making the most of their
comeback. They've enlisted the talents of Chuck D for their next album. They've
also used the vocal talents of funk soul legend, Edwyn Starr, and sampled Iggy
Pop from his days with the ‘Stooges’.
The Utahs spent their few years
away from the limelight very differently. Jez had his own radio show in Leeds,
whilst Tim DJ-ed in Chicago. They say getting Chuck D to perform on their
album's been the biggest buzz, not that they've met him yet: "We didn’t
hear anything back and then suddenly out of the blue just before Christmas, I
got a phone call and he was up for doing it. So it’s in the process of going
through, but no, we haven’t met him yet". And they add: "It’s a
great honour to have someone like him because he’s such an icon of really the
last decade and this decade as well. One of the most important spokespeople of
the last decade."
And they can add REM to their
list of supporters: "Michael Stipe’s said that it’s his perfect driving
record and that he likes driving around LA listening to our album. He also
bought several copies of our album to give to his friends apparently which was
nice."
